Legal Internet Company e-Law.com Helps 57 New York Law Firms Displaced by Terrorist Attack

NEWARK, NJ (Friday, October 12, 2001) ¾ New Jersey legal Internet company e-Law.com is rebuilding case information for over 57 New York City law firms that were displaced by the September 11th terrorist attack. The publishing arm of the company, New York Lawyers Diary and Manual (www.lawdiary.com) is collecting addresses and phone numbers of law firms that were forced to relocate. This information is posted on www.lawdiary.com/nyrelief.shtml and available by phone at 800-444-4041, ext 128.

“Many of the City’s law firms who lost their offices on September 11th also lost access to their case calendars. Without their calendars, these lawyers were unable to run their practice or serve their clients. e-Law has the technology to rebuild the calendars, so we reached out and offered to help,” said Jerry Krivitzky, Chairman & CEO.

The Internet company, e-Law, LLC (www.e-law.com) is reconstructing trial court dockets for the firms and sending them email alerts for future court decisions and appearances for the life of the case. “To date, e-Law has reconstructed 16,493 case histories for the 57 law firms. We download court data four times a day and send out email alerts about newly scheduled docket activity. Over 200 email alerts have already been sent to these 57 law firms,” said Ed Denne, e-Law’s COO.

Mitchell Caspert, the law firm administrator for Queller, Fisher, Dienst, Serrins, Washor & Kool, LLP, said “We’ve been without an office since the morning of September 11th. The advanced technology of e-Law has allowed us to carry on business as usual. Thanks to e-Law, we haven’t missed one court appearance.”

Other law firms are using e-Law to check their records. Goldfarb & Gerzog’s Ira Goldfarg said, “Having e-Law's support during these times is a great security blanket.”

New York Lawyers Diary and Manual assembled a coalition of New York bar and legal associations to share attorney contact. Joining the organization was the New York State Bar Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the New York County Lawyers Association, the Network of Bar Leaders, and the New Jersey State Bar Association.

It’s not uncommon for these law firms to change their address, phone number, fax number, and email address each week. This creates great difficulty for clients and other attorneys who need to locate these lawyers.

Denné said: “Creating one central clearing house for contact information brings consistency of content and the strength of a shared focus. Leveraging the efforts of many organizations to achieve the goal of providing the latest and most accurate information to those in need, underscores the unity that has become the signature of New York in recent weeks.”

e-Law case docket assistance is free to lawyers impacted by the September 11th tragedy. For more information, lawyers may go to http://www.e-law.com/nyrelief.asp, call 973-642-1440, ext. 8.
